Description:

Fender’s Blackface amps from the 1960’s are a benchmark for clean tones, pedal platforms, and bluesy overdrive when cranked up. Their deep lush reverb sound and scooped midrange is something many players love. More artists than I can count have used those amps for landmark recordings and touring.

Today they are one of the most copied amp lines out there and Fender has lots of RI models and there many clones from various builders. Some are great and some not so great but almost all of them do not address the fundamental problem most players have with Blackface amps: they are too loud to turn up to the sweet spot and much too loud to push into overdrive for most playing situations. Even when using pedals these amps really require that they are running the power section hard enough.

That’s where the Signature Reverb Series comes in! Our version is fitted with London Power Scaling so you can dial in the tone you want at much lower volumes. The onboard SAG control allows you get tight solid-state rectifier sounds and blooming tube sag sounds all in the same amp. Our version also allows for biasing in different types of power tubes for you own signature sound. The amps come as heads rather than combos eliminating tube rattle, reverb pan problems, and shortened tube life that happens in the traditional combos. Most of the Blackface amps have very similar circuits and differed in their transformer sets, output power, and speaker configurations. By building them as a head it allows the player to mix and match cabs to get the tone of the various models. For example, a player could pair it with a 2x12 for Twin Reverb type sounds, a 4x10 for Super Reverb sounds, or a 2x10 for Vibroluxe sound etc. So many possibilities!

  • London Power Scaling:

Power Scaling allows the player to dial in anything from full power down to 1/10W.  These amps are capable of playing anything from a bedroom to a stadium.  Many amps have  "wattage" and "power" controls that sound unnatural. London Power’s Power Scaling is different from most of these and very transparent. Plus, any setting below full power extends the life of the power tubes.

    SAG Control:

Allows the user to dial in the amp of sag/compression for the rectifier so you can get crisp solid-state or blooming tube feel from the amp.

     Tube Swapping:

The 20W and 40W Watt versions all come with 6L6GC power tubes but can use any of the following power tube types with re-baising: EL-34, KT77, 5881, 6L6WGC, 6L6GC, 6V6 or 6550s. Bias ports and externally accessed bias pots allows the user to swap tubes to customize the sound.

    Controls:

Volume, Bass, Treble, Mids, Reverb, SAG, Limit, and Power. A bright switch is also included. The reverb is footswitch-able and the footswitch is included with the amp.

    Tube Compliment:

Two 6L6GCS (other tubes are possible, Two 12AX7s, and two 12AT7s

  • Buyer Comments:

“Spectacular custom hand wired, hand build amp. Great sound, amazing reverb, and overdriven tube sound. This amp is the sound I’ve always wanted.”

”Best amp I’ve ever played though. This amp is everything I needed for my tone. It takes pedals exactly how I’d want it to. Albeit my pedals are mostly on the boutique end. My main overdrive pedals are the Vemuram TSV808 and the KingTone Guitars Blues Power by Jessie Davey. Amp is set to the point of break up. This amp set up is by far the best. Thanks for making a beyond superb product.”

    “Hi Carl!

I finally got to give the amplifier a workout today. I can't thank you enough. It's exactly what I hoped for-- all the sound of the old Super Reverb and all the convenience of scalable power and manageable weight. You nailed it, period. Anything else I could say would detract from the force of that statement.

I also really appreciate the instruction sheet you kindly sent with the amplifier. That's a nice touch and explained quite well how to use the power scaling feature effectively……”

  • FAQ:

Q: Can I get one with Tremolo?

A: No, not at this time.

Q: Can I get these as combo?

A: I will not be offering these as combos for a number of reasons. Chiefly, I think customers will be better served by a head and cab. All are light weight and easier to transport than a combo would be. Tube life is also extended.

Q: I need more power can you make these with more power?

    A. Yes, I can make an 80W version that uses a pair of 6L6GCs. It will not be able to swap power tube types but it will be loud, clean, monster!
